This is a home for a young family, who split time between Belfast and the Lake county of Fermanagh. A departure from the norm, of reception and living below sleeping, and central symmetrical access, has given us the opportunity to make best use of the topography, view, orientation and privacy and light provided by this spectacular location. A linear plan in lieu of a central circulation provides a route through spaces, reception, living, library, dining instead of the grand hall approach (pragmatic and well trodden), means the place can feel as big or as small as the number of guests dictates. Traditional materials, with large windows and views carved through the masonry walls and terraces gives some places a bright consistent orientation to the sun while others like the library are more about calm contemplation or being centre piece in a broad view across the lake.
